Discussion to focus on social media's ability to score for sports

Local sports community invited to hear panel of specialists and network at luncheon Sept. 12 in Dover

Dover, DE (August 16, 2012) – A panel featuring social media specialists from regional professional and college sports organizations, media and businesses will lead a discussion on the role of new media in sports Sept. 12 at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino.

The "Sports and Social Media" panel discussion and luncheon, presented by the Delaware Sports Commission, will cover a wide range of topics, including best practices, common problems and current trends as they relate to Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and other resources.

Members of the panel will include Lauren Cochran, Senior Manager of New Media for the Philadelphia Flyers; Jeff Goldscher, Executive Vice President of Aquarius Sports and Entertainment; Jimmy Smith, Director of Multimedia at the University of Delaware; Kate Driscoll, Social Media Analyst for AAA Club Partners; and a media representative from Dover Motorsports Inc.

The DSC encourages anyone involved in sports, whether they handle social media directly, run the organization or volunteer their time, to come take part in a great educational and networking event, said David Arthur, Executive Director of the Delaware Sports Commission

"We are excited to have an all-star panel with some of the top executives in our region," Arthur said. "In addition to offering some great insight, the event will be an excellent networking opportunity."

The Delaware Sports Commission, a not-for-profit organization, was established to attract large and small sporting events to Delaware to benefit the sports industry and community and to positively impact Delaware's economy. The DSC also assists with the retention and growth of existing sports events. To date, the DSC has partnered with close to 20 regional and national events, paving the way for larger-scale future events to be held in Delaware.
