Delaware History Trail – a path to American heritage!

Delaware welcomes you to take a step back in time to discover the First State’s unique and diverse history.  The Delaware History Trail features 36 prominent historic sites located throughout the state--each with its own special story to tell.  Visitors will have fun learning about how the history of the First State is intertwined with the significant moments that have defined our nation.

Delaware is also known as being a state of firsts!  Delaware’s early settlers were the first to establish the beginning of the New Sweden Colony.  Northern Delaware was the site of William Penn’s first landing.  Most notably, Delaware was the first state to ratify the constitution.  Delaware is also home to the first sites that fueled the industrial revolution.

All travelers will be intrigued and inspired by the historical sites featured on the trail. In fact, we’d love to hear about your trail experiences!  While visiting the trail sites, please “Snag the Tag” on the Delaware History Trail sign using a Microsoft Tag phone app or visit www.visitdelaware.com/history/sitefeedback to submit comments about your adventures.

How can you get started on the trail?  It’s simple! Go to www.visitdelaware.com/history, read the rules, download the passport, visit the Delaware History Trail sites, complete the passport and send it to the Delaware Tourism Office. You will then be qualified to receive a limited-edition “Landmarks and Legacies” book – a colorful collection of Delaware’s top 50 historical sites.
