Thousands of race fans will flock to Delaware this weekend, to witness NASCAR’s biggest stars as they take on the Monster Mile at Dover International Speedway. Action kicks off on Thursday, May 31, 2012 and continues till the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race on Sunday, June 3, 2012. The FanZone, located outside turn 4 of the track is the go to spot for meet and greets with the drivers, live music, driving simulators and much more!
There is plenty going on at the track but, if you are looking to hit the town, Dover has a lot to offer, within just a few miles off the track. Here are some of the top favorites!
So, you like fast cars? How about vintage aircrafts? Visit the Air Mobility Command Museum; located on the Dover Air Force Base, home to rare and historic aircrafts. Stop by to tour Air Force Two and if you’re lucky you might see a C-5 aircraft practice a touch-and-go overhead. Cost: Free.
Fordham Brewing Company is located just minutes from the Monster Mile! Dating back over 300 years, this savory brewery is one of the featured locations on the newly enhanced Delaware Wine and Ale Trail. Take a tour and taste their current brews. Tours are available on Friday and Saturday and the cost is $5.
Gaming and tax-free shopping is just a short walk from the track. Visit Dover Downs and Hotel Casino for table gaming, delicious dining options and a little A/C or walk just a couple more yards to the Dover Mall for tax-free shopping.
Check out some of the sites where U.S. history was made at First State Heritage Park. Take a walking tour and hear stories of the men and women that impacted the history of Delaware and our nation. Cost: Free.
