Planning a July 4th BBQ? Learn how to pick and eat a steamed crab from a Delaware waterman and be the envy at your crab feast! Or serve up some local flavor by offering local wine and beer from the locations on the Delaware Wine and Ale Trail.

Download the DelDOT App for traffic information on either the Android or iPhone for free. Delaware Beach area tips:

The Cape May Lewes Ferry is a 90-minute scenic ride for travelers visiting the Delaware beach area. Vehicle and foot passengers can purchase tickets online or at the ferry terminal. If you’re a vehicle passenger reservations are highly recommended. The ferry offers a Fireworks Cruise on July 3rd.

Jolly Trolley The Jolly Trolley Shuttle Service is a convenient way to travel between Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach. The Jolly Trolley will be running till Labor Day weekend on the following schedule: Saturdays & Sundays (8:00 a.m. – 2:00 a.m.); Weekdays (8:30 a.m. – 2:00 a.m.). Rates are $3.00 one-way and $5.00 round trip.

Use the DART First State’s Park and Ride lot located on Shuttle Rd. off of Delaware Rt. 1, north of Rehoboth Avenue to ride in comfort to the outlets, boardwalk and beach areas. Park for $8.00 and receive up to 4 free unlimited ride daily bus passes. All buses are air conditioned and equipped with wheelchair lifts and can carry 2 bikes. DART’s Route 305 Beach Connection, operates from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekends and provides service from Wilmington to Rehoboth Beach on Friday – Sunday nights. Please check with the individual beach towns or chambers of commerce for details about parking, pets on the beach, beach rules and regulations, etc. If you are visiting Rehoboth Beach, create a ParkMobile account ahead time to pay for parking.

What to pack for the beach in Delaware

Ready to feel the warm ocean breezes and sand between your toes? Delaware beaches await your arrival with relaxing views and fun in the sun! Plan for your beach weekend with this checklist of items to pack for the best trip to the beach! Or shop around the boardwalks and beach towns once you arrive to pack your bag with all of the essential items.

What to pack for the beach in Delaware1. Beach chair and umbrella – Tip: look for an anchor to go with the umbrella in case a breeze picks up off the ocean. Beach chairs and umbrellas are also available for rent on various Delaware beaches or for purchase at locations such as; Sunsations in Bethany Beach or up and down the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk.

2. Beach towel and blanket to keep your feet cool, to enjoy a picnic on the beach or to lie out in the sand.

3. Sunglasses, a beach hat (with a strap in case of ocean breezes), flip flops/sandals/water shoes, swimsuits and cover-ups! Dress for a warm day in the sun. Shop tax-free for the latest boutique fashions at popular locations such as Azura or Downtown Cowgirl in Rehoboth Beach.

4. Beach and water toys! Build the sandcastle of your dreams, toss the Frisbee around or spend the afternoon flying a kite along the oceanfront. 

5. An insulated cooler and a nice sized beach bag! Claim your spot in the sand with one trip by carrying a beach bag filled with all of your essential items such as;

• quarters or cash for parking meters (if visiting Rehoboth Beach or Bethany Beach set up an account ahead of time with ParkMobile to pay for parking);
• a book or e-reader;
• sunscreen;
• water bottle;
• granola, trail mix, chips or any kind of snack that stand the heat;
• phone and headphones;
• lip-gloss or chap stick;
• disposable wipes;
• aloe vera (just in case!)
