Black Friday is the most exciting shopping day of the year - nothing compares to planning, dashing, parking, shopping and the checkout experiences. Here in Delaware we try to make the experience a bit easier on your pocketbook because everything is tax-free. So while the other components of the Black Friday experience elsewhere might be the same – you will have more money to spend by shopping in Delaware. Other states may charge up to 6 to 8% in fees and sales tax, which quickly adds up when you are shopping.
Here are some tips for planning a Black Friday excursion in Delaware:
From North to South - Start either at the Concord Mall, which is, right over the Pennsylvania line or Christiana Mall, which is located off 95. Before heading out, do some research on the products you are searching for and the stores you are targeting. Then, decide which Mall or store fits your needs. Both malls will be open super early! Of course, parking and access will be sluggish during the first couple of hours but that is all part of the Black Friday experience. Don’t worry there is enough tax-free shopping to get around!
After hitting up Concord or Christiana, you can make your way downstate to the Dover Mall and Tanger Outlets.
From South to North (Or from the West) - Tanger Outlets Rehoboth Beach is the place to go! Over 150 brand name outlets plus, deals and discounts that happen all through the night beginning at 10:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Make sure to check their website before shopping for extra deals. Here is a big travel tip: in the Seaside outlets (on the north bound side) there is additional parking in the back of the center!
Once you’ve completed your Tanger Outlets adventure, you can head up north to the Dover, Christiana and Concord Malls to pick up additional items on your list.
For electronics and large ticket items: Wal-Mart, Target and Best Buy always have great deals and special hours on Black Friday as you travel north to south or vice versa you will find locations throughout the state. Don’t forget, the Christiana Mall is home to a Microsoft and Apple Store and the Tanger Outlets has a Sony and Bose store location.
Need a little caffeine jolt to the morning? All of the shopping locations have on-site and nearby dining for coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner if you plan on shopping all day! Local favorites include: Einstein Bros Bagels (northern locations), Brew Ha Ha!, Notting Hill Coffee (Lewes), Dolce (Milford), Espresso n’ Ice (Dover) and of course, Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts and all of your favorites are throughout the state!
Tips from expert Black Friday shoppers:
-- To avoid crowds and still enjoy the deals, start your shopping around 2:00 a.m.
-- If you have smart phone download the store apps for coupons right on your phone.
-- Tanger Outlets has a mobile app you can use all year long for bargains!
The bottom line is for phenomenal deals and great fun - SHOP DELAWARE! And if you are ready for more shopping after Black Friday then, visit our boutiques and small business throughout the state for Small Business Saturday!
