Invention Convention at Hagley Museum

10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Children and their families discover how things work through exploration, innovation, and creativity. Families work together to build inventions using everyday household items, and take apart electronics and gadgets to see how they are made. Children explore scientific principles at our hands-on science fair. Admission, including supplies, is $5 for children 4-14, $7 for adults, and free for Hagley members and children 3 and under. Use Hagley’s Buck Road East entrance off Route 100 in Wilmington, Delaware.

Tales of Slavery and Freedom Walking Tour at First State Heritage Park
Saturday, January 18, 2014
Begins at 10:00 a.m. (Tours begin every hour and last 45 minutes)
Visitors will be led by historical interpreters dressed in period attire to hear about Delaware’s position as a border state during the Civil War era. Tours will meet at the John Bell House.

Lantern Tour at Delaware Seashore State Park – Indian River Lifesaving Station

Begins at 7:00 p.m.
Take a guided lantern tour of the historic Indian River Life-Saving Station Museum. You’ll learn about shipwrecks and will venture over the dune to patrol the beach.

Sunrise to Sunset at Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge
Monday, January 20, 2014
The 12-mile wildlife drive will be open from sunrise to sunset and offer opportunities for families to view wildlife in natural settings and to walk 5 short walking trails. This time of year expect to see large numbers of snow geese, a variety of waterfowl, bald eagles, hawks, and great blue herons. The entrance fee will be waived to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
