First State Heritage Park’s First Saturday Celebrates "African-American History Month"

Begins at 9:00 a.m.
Walking tours of The Green begin hourly at the John Bell House and will be focused on "Tales of Slavery and Freedom" which features the experience of the African-American in Delaware in the years before the Civil War. Taking a look at more modern history, the Johnson Victrola Museum presents "Remembering Rosedale Beach" at 2:00 p.m. which explores the history of a popular waterfront in Sussex County run by, and for, people of color that featured noted performers such as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin and James Brown. Besides the above-mentioned activities, the First State Heritage Park has a lot more to offer that will interest everyone celebrating the African American History Month in the state of Delaware.
