Labor Day Beach Vacation – Delaware Travel Tips 2014

Labor Day weekend is already here! A perfect chance to enjoy a relaxing weekend at the beautiful Delaware beaches. Here are some helpful travel tips to assist in planning ahead. Leaving plenty of time to enjoy time with friends and family.

Bethany Beach Delaware∙ Learn more about Delaware Beaches including things to do, places to eat and where to stay in Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey, Bethany Beach and Fenwick Island. Each beach has its own vacation style from bayside breezes to coastal charm. Pick your favorite!

∙ Search the Delaware Tourism site for nearby restaurant, hotel and attraction listings including Yelp and Tripadvisor reviews. Plus, find information about weekend events in Delaware. 

∙ Find Delaware deals including discounts at attractions, hotels and beach vacation rentals.

∙ Learn how to pick and eat a steamed crab from a Delaware waterman and be the envy at your crab feast! Then, find the perfect dining spot for enjoying steamed crabs in Delaware. Or serve up some local flavor at your end of summer BBQ by offering local wine and beer from the locations on the Delaware Wine and Ale Trail.

∙ Take a break from the beach and discover new adventures on the Delaware Outdoor Trail - a collection of more than 60 activities ranging from hiking, biking to kayaking.

Travel tips:

Best times to travel the Chesapeake Bay Bridge on your way to the beach:
   -- Friday before 10:00 a.m. and after 10:00 p.m.
   -- Saturday before 7:00 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m.
   -- Sunday before 10:00 a.m. and afar 10:00 p.m.
   -- Labor Day Monday before 10:00 a.m. and after 10:00 p.m.

∙ Searching for beach travel tips? We've compiled a helpful list for travelers. We also suggest downloading the DelDOT App for traffic information on either the Android or iPhone for free. If you’re on a desktop computer, you can view an interactive traffic map on their main website.

Cape May Lewes Ferry∙ Take a break from the road. The Cape May Lewes Ferry is a 90-minute scenic ride for travelers visiting the Delaware beach area. Vehicle and foot passengers can purchase tickets online or at the ferry terminal. If you’re a vehicle passenger reservations are highly recommended.

∙ The Jolly Trolley Shuttle Service is a convenient way to travel between Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach. The Jolly Trolley will be running till Labor Day weekend on the following schedule: Saturdays & Sundays (8:00 a.m. – 2:00 a.m.); Weekdays (8:30 a.m. – 2:00 a.m.). Rates are $3.00 one-way and $5.00 round trip.

∙ Use the DART First State’s Park and Ride lot located on Shuttle Rd. off of Delaware Rt. 1, north of Rehoboth Avenue to ride in comfort to the outlets, boardwalk and beach areas. Park for $8.00 and receive up to 4 free unlimited ride daily bus passes. All buses are air conditioned and equipped with wheelchair lifts and can carry 2 bikes. DART’s Route 305 Beach Connection, operates from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekends and provides service from Wilmington to Rehoboth Beach on Friday – Sunday nights.

∙ Please check with the individual beach towns or chambers of commerce for details about parking, pets on the beach, beach rules and regulations, etc. If you are visiting Rehoboth Beach or Bethany Beach, create a ParkMobile account ahead time to pay for parking.
