“The First State” (Delaware was the first state to ratify the federal Constitution); “The Diamond State” (Thomas Jefferson noted that Delaware is a “jewel among the states”); “The Blue Hen State” (Delaware’s first Continental Regiment was said to have marched into the Revolutionary War with pugnacious Blue Hens).
