CITY OF ANGELS is the rarest of musical comedies- one that is not only loaded with music and written in the contemporary jazz idiom, but also filled with sidesplitting comedy. CITY OF ANGELS transports audiences back in time to 1940’s Hollywood. It is a musical homage to the Hollywood crime genre of motion pictures that was popular at that time. While trying to maintain his artistic integrity, a novelist, Stine, is attempting to write a screenplay for a fast-talking Hollywood producer. The script is an adaptation of one of Stine's novels which features his hero, a private investigator named Stone. As Stine creates the story about a private detective named Stone, the characters of Stine's imagination come to life on stage in black-and-white costumes and set. The musical weaves together two plots, the "real" world of a writer trying to turn his book into a screenplay (in color), and the "reel" world of the fictional film.
