A special new exhibition in the Delaware History Museum, "Forging Faith, Building Freedom: African American Faith Experiences in Delaware, 1800-1980," celebrating two important anniversaries. Two hundred years ago, Peter Spencer founded the African Union church, the first independent black denomination church in the US. The next year, he started the nation's oldest African American festival, the August Quarterly.
The exhibition will be open to the public from September 27 through summer 2014. Reserved group tours for adults or youth are welcome. A special tour especially for youth groups will be available.
