Food, music and fireworks are part of the annual Liberty Day celebration that will once again take over the southern part of Newark and the University of Delaware campus from 6-9 p.m. July 4. The fireworks blast off at the University of Delaware's David M. "The Red, White, and Blue July 4th Celebration" takes place July 4 in Tubman-Garrett Park along the Riverwalk. After a day's worth of events, the Delaware Symphony Orchestra will perform a 75-minute finale concert boasting patriotic music that will lead up to fireworks at about 9:45 p.m. In the case of rain, the concert and fireworks will take place on July 5. The image of the eagle has been an important icon in the history of the du Pont family. The du Pont family came to America on the ship “American Eagle," the DuPont Company's first product was Eagle Gun Powder, and decorative arts collected by Mrs. Louise du Pont Crowninshield were adorned with eagles, a common symbolic element in Federal-style furnishings.
