Delaware Winter Festivals and Events

Delaware’s historic towns and charming nooks come alive during the holiday season, thanks to Yuletide tours, dazzling light displays, stage classics, festive parades and other events that capture the joy and spirit celebrated each year in the First State. Winter festivals and events in Delaware take place from early November through the first week of January and include holiday-themed exhibits at museums like Hagley Museum and Winterthur Museum, Garden, and Library; house tours in historic Lewes and Odessa; and parades in towns both large (Wilmington) and small (Milton). And while Delaware’s beaches are known as the capital of summer fun, the town of Rehoboth offers one of the state’s most iconic symbols of the season when it lights its 30-foot tree.

Lecture/tour of His Majesty’s Sloop DeBraak

Fashion Meets Science: Introducing Nylon

Seventy-five years ago on October 27, 1938, a brand new material named nylon was announced to the public. Created in DuPont’s labs, nylon replaced silk in the ladies hosiery industry. Nylon was so popular that its early sales created near riots because demand was so high. Hagley’s exhibition will discuss the early development of nylon and its impact on the fashion industry. "Hydro-Inspired" Photography Exhibit

Photo submissions from members of the Delaware Photographic Society interpret the theme of water in dramatic fashion in a display in the Museum’s patio hallway, leading visitors in to Water’s Extreme Journey. The Delaware Photographic Society is one of the oldest camera clubs in the country and was first organized as the Delaware Camera Club in 1931. More
