When the Delaware Tourism Office sets its sights on potential travelers, it is all about greeting travelers where they are. That’s why so many of the state tourism's marketing efforts have been targeted on the rich potential of such markets as Washington, D.C., New York City and Philadelphia.
It clearly is paying off, since targeted marketing and attending selective tradeshows, visitation to the state has increased from the areas that received DTO's messaging and outreach. And considering that Delaware is a drive-to destination—94% of visitors use a car to get to get here—there is clearly potential for even more out-of-state business from the surrounding regions.
That’s why the DTO is working hard to engage with as many out-of-state travelers as possible by attending some of the East Coast’s biggest travel tradeshows, where we can make a direct pitch to potential visitors by highlighting Delaware’s broad appeal: Unique attractions, affordable travel and easy-to-reach destinations.

Closer to home, the DTO worked to heighten awareness of its popular Delaware on Tap mobile app by greeting travelers to the 50th anniversary of Dover International Speedway. The free download from the App Store and Google Play connects more than 30 breweries, wineries, distilleries, meaderies and cideries, features information on events, tours and transportation, and offers a free prize to users who visit 10 sites.
Each tradeshow and outreach at out-of-state festivals, draws more and more interest and visitation to Delaware. Through one-on-one interaction, we are sharing why Delaware is an ideal destination for their next getaway!
