When we asked the winning photographer, Joe del Tufo, about his photo and the Delaware Tourism Office Seasonal Photo Contest he stated:
“I was excited to hear about the Delaware Tourism photo contest as I've photographed the state for much of the last 10 years. People don't realize how much beauty and diversity we have in such a small space. It was fun to choose the shots. The Caesar Rodney sunrise was one photograph I was hoping would resonate. I was lucky to have my camera with me for a morning session as I drove into Wilmington. I tried to think of a location to frame the glorious and quickly changing skies. Rodney Square quickly became the obvious choice, as it could be silhouetted but still identifiable. I had about 5 minutes before the sun was over the clouds. It was about being in the right place at the right time, as photography so often is.”
So, how did the photo contest work?
The photo contest began 6 months ago in October 2001 and received over 500 submissions from amateur and professional photographers. In February 2012, a panel of judges including professional photographers Kevin Fleming and Tony Pratt and a representative from Delaware Today® Magazine, Charlie Tomlinson reviewed the submissions and selected a finalist in each of the four seasonal categories. During the past month, the public has voted for their favorite Delaware photo. The photo with the most votes was named the winner.
