Some things are just meant to go together – peanut butter and jelly, spaghetti and meatball, you and your sweetheart… and, of course, Valentine’s Day and chocolate. Along the Delaware Beer, Wine and Spirits Trail chocolate isn’t just for eating, it’s for drinking deliciously lovely craft beverages.
Big Oyster Brewing is releasing something special this year: Mi Amor Chocolate Strawberry Oyster Stout. This stout is brewed with cocoa nibs from Ecuador, giving it a rich, decadent dark chocolate character to balance the subtle, fruity strawberry finish. It’s like a chocolate covered strawberry in a glass.
Mispillion River Brewing was also in the mood for chocolate covered strawberries but brought another element of Valentine’s Day into the mix – two becoming one. The brewery made Mars and Venus, which are a chocolate stout and a strawberry ale. Individually they are delicious, but they are meant to be combined to create a chocolate strawberry beer.
Stick with the mixing theme with Fordham and Dominion Brewing’s Chocolate Covered Cherry. It has two parts Dominion Cherry Blossom Lager and one part Dominion Oak Barrel Stout. Now that’s a pairing Cupid himself would love.
Brick Works Brewing and Eats created Chocolate Pie, a blonde ale brewed with chocolate, for February. The creamy and sweet aroma is balanced with the sweet, full-bodied flavor of white cake, chocolate, and pie crust. Brick Works recommends pairing this beer with its Earth & Fire Fries, Beef and Barley Soup, Angry Wings, Brisket Pot Roast, and Jumbo Cookie. The beer will also be featured at the Brewery’s February Beer Dinner on Wednesday, February 22.
Stay in Smyrna to try Blue Earl Brewing’s Black Satin Chocolate Hazelnut Porter with your Valentine. The brew exhibits the flavors of rich dark chocolate from organic raw cocoa nibs and 100% chocolate and hazelnut extracts. It will definitely keep you warm on a chilly Valentine’s Day.
Liquid Alchemy Beverages is partnering with Cakes by Kim for their Cupid’s Crazy Mead and Cider Party on Saturday, February 11. The meadery will offer four delightfully sweet mead infused treats: Choco-Cherry-Bon-Bon infused chocolate cakes with chocolate ganache, Black-302 infused Chocolate Mousse Shells with fresh fruit garnish, and Naughty-Balls, dark and white chocolate Cosmo-Naughty infused cake balls.
So, think outside of the (candy) box a bit this Valentine’s Day. Start a new tradition - give your special someone the gift of chocolate in a glass from the beverages around the Delaware Beer, Wine and Spirits Trail.
