Planning a great Valentine’s Day for you and your special someone can be a challenge. It requires the perfect mix of romance and fun. Find that sweet spot, and you’ll have a day that won’t require an Instagram post or Facebook photo album to be remembered. Instead the slideshow of memories will play all by itself on repeat in your minds. And we have some suggestions for how to make that happen in Delaware on February 14th.

  1. It’s an old dating cliché to say you love “long walks on the beach.” Turn that cliché into a perfect Valentine’s Day date. Draw a heart in the sand together on Bethany Beach. Embrace each other as the ocean breeze blows in at Cape Henlopen State Park. Hold your sweetheart’s hand as the sun sets over the bay at Dewey Beach.
  2. Whether you can do a sow cow and a triple lutz or you spend more time on your bum than standing up straight, a skate around the Horizon Riverfront Outdoor Ice Skating Rink is certainly a romantic evening. Share a kiss in the glow from the city buildings as you circle the rink – just make sure you’ve brought some chap stick if it’s really chilly out.
  3. You may feel like you’ve hit the jackpot with your loved one. This Valentine’s Day you could hit an actual jackpot together at Delaware Park, Harrington Raceway and Casino or Dover Downs Hotel and Casino. Jump, yell and hug after your big win. Then spend a little of your new money on amazing food at Michele’s in Dover Downs, Bonz in Harrington or At Rail Bar & Grille in Wilmington.
  4. Maybe the macabre in Milford will make your Valentine’s memorable. Take in the Second Street Players’ performance of Agatha Christie’s A Murder is Announced. Then you can stroll arm in arm down Walnut Street, but only for a short while (less than 200 feet), to the Zagat-rated Georgia House for a delicious and intimate dinner for two.
  5. Northern Delaware has great shows to delight and entertain you and your date. The Secret Garden is showing at the historic Everett Theater in Middletown, and the Candlelight Theater has the hilarious Spamalot. You’ll spend the rest of the night singing the shows’ songs to each other or belly laughing together as you remember the uproarious jokes.
  6. Do you love the Delaware Geocaching Trail? Well, there’s a Valentine’s Day event just for you. Share your love for geocaching and each other in southern Delaware. Find treasures since you’ve already found true love.
  7. Share the ambiance and an amazing AAA Four-Diamond meal at The Green Room in the Hotel du Pont. Love will fill the air, and so will music from above in the musicians’ gallery. If you want opulence and romance but not the late timing of dinner, afternoon tea at the hotel is one of the most unique experiences your Valentine’s Day could include.
  8. Few sounds can be more romantic than the clink of two wine glasses coming together. Head for the state line in central Delaware and the friendly, welcoming team at Marydel’s Harvest Ridge Winery. Or sip a sweet red, maybe a blush – both sure to get you in the romantic mood – at Pizzadili Winery in Felton.
  9. For some, beer is even more romantic than wine. Lock eyes with your beloved over free samples of Dogfish Head’s many off-centered brews after a brewery tour. You can make a weekend of it by booking a room at the Dogfish Head Inn. Or you can make Dogfish Head just the first stop of your journey together along Delaware’s Beer, Wine and Spirits Trail.
  10. The famous artist Marc Chagall said, “Art must be an expression of love, or it is nothing.” Express your love with a day of art. The Delaware Art Museum and the Biggs Museum of American Art are wonderful places to discover beauty and allow a mix of color, shape and design to show you what love can look like together.
