“An Illegal Activity: The Underground Railroad in Delaware” exhibit at First State Heritage Park

The exhibit explores the First State's role in the pre-Civil War network of secret routes and safe houses used by black slaves in the United States to escape to free states and Canada with the aid of abolitionists and allies who were sympathetic to their cause.

Nemours Mansion & Gardens Holiday Tours

The estate is decorated with a gingerbread house of the mansion, Christmas trees, paper filigree quilling, original toys, ornaments and more. A guided tour reveals a treasure trove of fine European and American furniture, rare rugs, tapestries, and outstanding works of art. Following the house tour visitors are taken on a guided bus tour through the Gardens. One of the finest examples of French-style gardens in America, it extends one third of a mile along the main vista from the house. The Gardens are exquisitely landscaped with fountains, pools, and statuary surrounded by natural woodlands.

“American Moderns, 1910-1960: From O'Keeffe to Rockwell” exhibit at the Delaware Art Museum

“American Moderns” features 57 paintings and sculptures that highlight changes in American art and culture during the fascinating half-century from 1910 through 1960. The exhibition’s major themes include cubist experiments, images of modern structures, and stylized renditions of traditional subjects, such as landscapes and still life arrangements.
