An Illegal Activity: The Underground Railroad in Delaware – at First State Heritage Park

The exhibit explores the First State's role in the pre-Civil War network of secret routes and safe houses used by black slaves in the United States to escape to free states and Canada with the aid of abolitionists and allies who were sympathetic to their cause. Focusing on two Delawareans who played important roles in this illegal and clandestine enterprise-Samuel D. Burris and Thomas Garrett.

Costumes of Downton Abbey® exhibit at Winterthur Museum and Garden

Costumes of Downton Abbey is an original exhibition of exquisite designs from the award-winning television series. Approximately 35 historically accurate costumes from the television show will be displayed with photographs and vignettes inspired by the fictional program and by real life at Winterthur. Visitors will have a chance to step into and experience the world of Downton Abbey® and the contrasting world of Winterthur founder Henry Francis du Pont and his contemporaries in the first half of the 20th century. Timed tickets are required for the exhibit.

On Sundays in February and March, visitors can get a taste of Hagley for only $5. Visit the beautiful Brandywine, the historic powder yards, the first du Pont family home in America, the worker’s world, and the Belin House Organic Café.
