96th Annual Wilmington Flower Market at Rockford Park

Johnny Rzeznik (lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls), A Great Big World and Karmin headline the 96th Annual Wilmington Flower Market, which is held at Rockford Park in Wilmington the Thursday, Friday and Saturday before Mother's Day. This fun-filled event is eagerly awaited by market-goers of all ages throughout the region. Flowers and plants of all kinds are available and Flower Market is a favorite shopping stop for Mom on her special day. Children's rides and games, concerts, food and drink, merchants' booths, crafts and artwork make for a great Spring outing. Rain or shine, admission is free.

The Lewes Merchants’ Spring Sidewalk Sale takes place in the Historic Lewes Commercial District around Second Street. Their three-day sale begins Friday and ends Sunday.

Auburn Heights Preserve Open House

Tour the Auburn Heights Mansion and the Marshall Steam Museum. The mansion is the former home of the Marshall family who furnished it with the antiques you will find there today. The tour includes the two main floors of the mansion. Please note that there are steps to get into the mansion and one flight of stairs during the tour. The Marshall Steam Museum houses the world’s largest collection of operating steam cars. Each tour lasts approximately 45 minutes. $8 for adults, $4 for kids for the mansion; $8 per person for the museum Please note: If there is inclement weather on the day of the program, please check or for a program update. If severe weather forces state offices to be closed, the programs will be cancelled for that day.

If you were born, married, or attended public school in Delaware, eventually the Delaware Public Archives (DPA) will receive the information that documents these important events. On Saturday, May 7, the staff of the Archives will conduct a tour of this remarkable facility. This annual “behind the scenes” tour of the building, conducted by Tom Summers, Manager of Outreach Services, offers the public a rare opportunity to learn more about the role of DPA, and see how the Archives preserves and protects the records that are important to every Delawarean.

Step back in time to see elegant automobiles of the country-estate era. Enjoy a series of displays of magnificent historic automobiles on select Saturdays in May. Each Saturday will feature a different thematic display and associated lecture. From 1916 to 1969, hundreds of guests came to Winterthur for glittering social occasions hosted by Henry Francis and Ruth Wales du Pont. During the heyday of Winterthur as a du Pont family home, guests arrived in a wide variety of automobiles that reflected the latest in design and fashion. To honor this tradition, Winterthur will have on view grand vehicles from the 1910s through the 1950s each Saturday in May 2016 for you to enjoy! Weather permitting. Members free. The annual steeplechase horse races echo the state's well-heeled heritage as home to the DuPont family and their regal estates. Staged on the sprawling grounds and rolling hills of this one-time DuPont mansion, the Point to Point is renowned as a place to see-and-be-seen amid extravagant "tailgate" buffets and lavishly stocked hospitality tents including an area for off-centered ales with Dogfish Head Brewery.
