Lewes Historical Society Maritime Living History Festival
Lewes, Delaware was once an epicenter of maritime activity. Join the Lewes Historical Society on Saturday May 23 as we pay homage to our seaborne past. The historic Shipcarpenter Street Campus will come to life, as maritime living historians from throughout the Atlantic Seaborne inhabit the buildings and campus. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage with these individuals portraying sailors and maritime labourers as they teach about the hardships and lives they led, in addition to demonstrations of historic rope making, spar making, and sail making. The streets of downtown Lewes will again be inhabited by sailors as interpreters portray historic occurrences and altercations throughout the day. Additionally, special tours will be offered throughout the day, with the evening concluding at Simon Marriner's Tavern for a chantey night. If you are interested in participating as a living historian, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
