Barratts Chapel Photo

Barratt's Chapel located in Frederica, Delaware, is the oldest surviving church building in the United States built by and for Methodists. Known as the "Cradle of Methodism," the site is an officially designated Heritage Landmark of the United Methodist Church. Constructed in 1780, this simple but stately brick house of worship was where the pioneers Thomas Coke and Francis Asbury met in 1784 to plan for the establishment of the Methodist Church as an independent denomination.
