Delaware Nature Society/Ashland Nature Center


Parking: Parking lot - free.

Located near Hockessin, Ashland Nature Center serves as the Delaware Nature Society's headquarters and the hub for all of its activities of education and natural resource conservation. The site is open to the public year-round and features an overnight lodge for school and public groups, a seasonal butterfly house, picnic area and 130 acres of self-guided trails through a variety of habitats. It is also home to the Ashland Hawk Watch.  Environmental Educational programs are offered for all ages, as well as courses for teachers.

Hours of Operation: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Mon.-Fri.

Seasonal Hours: Trails open daily, all year.  Butterfly House: limited hours June-Sept. Hawk Watch: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept.-Nov.

Best Time to Visit: All year long. At Hawk Watch, witness migration from Sept.-Nov.

Best Known For: Hawk Watch every fall, Sept.-Dec..  Up to 20,000 hawks migrate past Hawk Watch Hill every fall. Birding is great all year.
