Governor Ross Mansion

Learn what life was like before the Civil War; why a popular Delaware governor was smuggled to England with a federal warrant out for his arrest; and how the "War of Northern Aggression" changed life in Delaware forever. Located on Ross Station Road, one mile north Seaford, this spectacular Italianate home once was the residence of Delaware Gov. William Henry Harrison Ross. The house and its grounds chronicle the state’s pre-Civil War days, when the slaveholding Ross family presided over one of southern Delaware’s most extensive agricultural enterprises. Outbuildings include what may be the state’s last surviving slave quarters.
