Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge

Located in Central Delaware on 16,251 acres along the Delaware Bay, Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge is the perfect location for people who love the outdoors. Visitors can walk five hiking trails, take beautiful wildlife photography, or even drive the 12 miles of road that run through the refuge. Property here was conveyed by Native Americans to Dutch settler Peter Bayard in 1679. It was then known as “Bompties Hoeck” – or “Little Tree Point.” In 1937 the federal government purchased 12,000 acres at this location as a refuge for native animal species, and shelter for migratory waterfowl. Since then, the grounds have been expanded, and with the addition of walking trails and a Visitor Center, offers visitors the opportunity to experience the timelessness of abundant wildlife and wide-open spaces.
