Water Activity - Passes and Licenses

Delaware’s scenic waterways are available to the public to enjoy! Below is information about boating and fishing in Delaware to assist in planning your travels on the Delaware Outdoor Trail.

A license is required in all Delaware waters to fish, clam or crab. Delaware’s fishing license covers both fresh and tidal waters and ranges in cost based on whether the individual is a resident or non-resident from $8.50 - $20. A yearly or 7-day non-resident tourist fishing license is available for purchase from the Delaware Division of Fish & Wildlife beginning January 1 of each year.

The Delaware fishing license is valid for recreational crabbing and clamming. Trout fishing will require an additional fee to receive the approved trout stamp (license). There are additional fees for charter boats, head boats and an option for a recreational boat-fishing license.

Various Delaware State Parks allow for surf fishing on designated beach areas. Surf fishing vehicle permits are required and allow four-wheeled vehicles to drive on the beaches. An angler is exempt from the fishing license requirement if he or she is the permit holder of a valid Delaware surf-fishing vehicle permit. The permit is available through the Delaware Division of Parks and Recreation.
