The official start of summer is here! With the weather turning warmer and the days growing longer, summer is the perfect time to make memories in Delaware.

Whether you are an adventurer looking for your next thrill or someone who prefers a laid-back beach day, our state has it all.

Opt Outside

Summertime is the perfect season to experience live music outside. Delaware State Parks offer free concerts included in regular park admission throughout the summer. Bring a blanket or chair and your friends and family to enjoy a picnic and create summer memories.

Mark your calendar for Summer Nights on Wednesdays at Hagley Museum, presented by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. Spend the evening strolling through the Brandywine Valley’s beautiful outdoor scenery, with your furry friend on certain nights. You can also purchase from local food trucks including Woodside Farm Creamery’s tasty ice cream.

Downstate, make plans to attend an outdoor concert at the Freeman Arts Pavillion. With acts ranging from 70s favorites KC and the Sunshine Band and country star Cole Swindell to comedians John Mulaney and Kathleen Madigan, there is sure to be a show that fits perfectly into your summer itinerary.

Take in America’s Favorite Pastime

For all baseball lovers, the minor league Blue Rocks games at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington are a fun and affordable way to spend time with family and friends. Throughout the summer, there are also various promotions to help you enjoy the game. Tuesdays are “Pups in the Park,” where your four-legged friend can accompany you to watch the game. Wednesdays are “$2 dogs” at the concession stands, and Thursdays are “Beer:30,” where you can enjoy a selection of Dogfish Head beer. On Fridays, stay after the game for a spectacular fireworks show.

As the city of Wilmington expands, so do the opportunities to enjoy the city’s nightlife. Walking along the Wilmington Riverfront and stopping at one of the restaurants is a must for everyone visiting the city. There are many options to choose from, including the Riverfront Market, Del Pez Mexican Gastropub, Big Fish Grill, and more. When visiting the riverfront, you can also visit OperaDelaware, Delaware Cruises & Events (with its own tiki bar), Delaware Theatre Company, and Penn Cinema Riverfront IMAX for cinematic and dramatic experiences. Other highlights include the Delaware Children’s Museum for unique experiences and Riverwalk Mini Golf. For a nightlight experience, visit Makers Alley, the heart of the social scene, or Wilma’s for a great drink and duck pin bowling to end the night.

Make a Splash

Delaware is full of bodies of water to fulfill everyone’s activity bucket list, whether you are looking for relaxation or adventure. Lums Pond State Park is perfect for kayaking, canoeing, paddle boating, and fishing, offering peaceful scenery for a day outdoors. You can even view the park from a unique perspective at Go Ape Zipline and Adventure Park. Another state park worth exploring by way of the water is Trap Pond State Park where a kayak or canoe trip puts you in the middle of a forest of Baldcypress trees.

Along coastal Delaware, paddleboarding is a favorite activity at Indian River Inlet, Cape Henlopen State Park, and Bethany Beach, where calm waters and beautiful scenery make for a memorable experience.

For those looking for more excitement on the water, Delaware’s beaches also offer boating adventures such as pontoon boat rentals, sunset cruises, dolphin-watching excursions, sailing, and fishing charters. In Dewey Beach, thrill-seekers can enjoy jet-skiing and parasailing for breathtaking views of the coastline and an adrenaline-filled day on the water. Whether you prefer peaceful kayaking at sunrise, paddleboarding through scenic waterways, or speeding across the bay on a jet ski, Delaware’s waterways offer something for every kind of traveler.
