Delaware Beaches Pet-Friendly Destinations
Up and down the Delaware coast, pets are a welcome and familiar part of the summer scene. Strolling through town, dog-walkers frequently will find a bowl of water placed outside shops for thirsty pooches, and on the beaches themselves, designated areas offer dogs the thrill of a splash in the surf.
Here’s a look at the Top Pet-Friendly Destinations at the Delaware Beaches:
• A number of Delaware’s best attractions are animal-friendly. The Cape May-Lewes Ferry gives you and your furry companion a chance to cool off amid bay breezes. Leashed pets are welcome on all exterior decks. The Air Mobility Command Museum (only 25-30 minutes from the beach) also welcomes visitors with leashed pets. And Dogfish Head Brewery allows animals to hang in the tasting room. The brewery tour is humans only.
Lazy L at Willow Creek B&B (16061 Willow Creek Rd, Lewes). This self-proclaimed “pet-friendliest” B&B features a fenced-in area for off-leash play, doggy daycare services and directions to nearby pet-friendly beaches. Fans also rave about the dog-friendly vibe at the Hotel Rodney (142 Second Street, Lewes) and The Breakers Hotel & Suites (105 Second St., Rehoboth Beach).
Shopping in Delaware is a tax-free delight, and that applies to pets as well. Check out the array of animal-accessory boutiques, including Critter Beach (156 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach); Yuppy Puppy (123 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach); P.U.P.S. of Lewes (117 2nd St., Lewes); and DJ’s Pet Depot (17644 Coastal Hwy, Lewes).
Delaware is full of places to do tax-free shopping for your canine or kitty. They range from boutiques near the beach in towns like Rehoboth Beach or Lewes to the nationwide chains you know from back home.
State parks on the beach – Cape Henlopen State Park, Delaware Seashore State Park and Fenwick Island State Park – are great places for pets to stretch out and get some exercise, but be mindful of the regulations. Some are open to leashed pets year-round. Others limit pets during the height of the beach season. Download the Delaware State Park pet map for more information.
